Green and digital technologies should go hand in hand, as the name Twin Transition suggests. Collecting data and using it to reduce our emissions, building smart homes and smart factories, using big data and the latest available innovations can all be a very powerful tool to reach our goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Focusing the technological innovations on the most carbon intensive sectors can help companies radically improve their efficiency in transport, carbon, and material use, as well as reducing their waste.

One of the main tasks that could help achieve this is providing the necessary education for participants of these relevant sectors, helping them take a step closer to the circular economy. The wood and furniture sector are one of the more important industries, not only in Europe, but in the world. In the European Union close to 120.000 micro, small and medium enterprises employ around 1 million workers, generating an annual turnover of around €96 billion and producing 25% of the world’s furniture.

WOODCircle sets out to provide the first steps towards the transition to circularity. The aim of the project is to show why there is a need for sustainable furniture production, and to give a direction to managers and employees of furniture companies on where to start. The project will include good practices already used by companies in the sector, as well as the theoretical knowledge needed for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
