Magyar Bútor- és Faipari Szövetség

The Hungarian Wood and Furniture Association - Fabunio is an NGO that was founded in 1990 by the name Hungarian Furniture Association and by now has more than 100 members. It has a close working relationship with the competent authorities, governmental organizations and other governmental persons and it is a member and partner to several organizations, such as the Confederation of Hungarian Employers and Industrialists (MGYOSZ), the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency (HFDA) or the European Furniture Industries Confederation (EFIC).

Fabunio is a creative response to economic and ecological processes to which it was no longer possible to respond effectively within a traditional federal framework. The Association consciously and proactively shape the future of the Hungarian wood and furniture industry, formulating four main areas for action:

  • Fabunio Business – advocacy community, joint industry action also at the level of strategic decision-making.

  • Fabunio Junior - youth education, assuming responsibility for their future careers.

  • Fabunio Skills - knowledge sharing and development in order to identify and exploit opportunities emerging in the wake of the discontinued large companies.

  • Fabunio Design - involvement in the creative industries, strengthening added-value design thinking.

The board is made up of nine experts, all from different areas of the woodworking and furniture industry. Even though the Association is based in the capital city, Budapest, its partners and members come from all over Hungary and include woodworkers, upholsterers, CNC operators, students, teachers, artists, and producers. Thanks to the merger of two different associations, members and partners now include both small enterprises and widely known companies that produce and sell worldwide.

The Association is involved in educational projects, such as career orientation, educational and vocational guidance. It regularly organizes events and factory visits to make the sector more popular among the younger generation and to provide a hands-on experience to students already participating in vocational training.

The Budapest Complex Center of Vocational Training is a contracted partner and member of the Association. The center manages 13 schools, overseeing the work of more than 1000 teachers, administrators and other educational personnel that teach almost 9000 students.

The members and partners of Fabunio represent almost every area of the Hungarian creative industries. This diverse knowledge is a unique asset and intellectual capital that provides a secure foundation for the realization of ambitious plans.
